What Is Zelle?
Zelle is a peer-to-peer payment tool that allows users to quickly send money between U.S. bank accounts. Once you enroll your email or U.S. mobile number in Zelle through your mobile banking app, you can send money to friends and family with just a tap.
While sending and receiving limits vary by bank, one key advantage Zelle has compared to apps like Venmo or Cash App is that it does not charge a fee for instant transfers.
More than 2,200 financial institutions in the U.S. support Zelle, including online banks, traditional banks and credit unions.

Can I Use Zelle Without a Bank Account?
Zelle has begun to phase out this feature. As of January 8, 2025, new Zelle users must enroll through the banking app of an institution that supports the payment tool, not the stand-alone app. Existing Zelle app users will no longer have the ability to send or receive funds after March 31, 2025.
