Edelman Financial Engines Review – Forbes Advisor

Edelman Financial Engines provides a variety of services. Fees vary but are on the higher end, especially for investors with modest or moderate portfolios.

Wealth Planning

For its wealth-planning services, Edelman bases its fees on a percentage of total investable assets. Depending on how much you have in your account, fees range from 0.50% to 1.75% of your assets under management (AUM).

Those fees — particularly for those with assets of $750,000 or less — are on the higher end of the typical range. Fees of around 1% are more common, even if you only work with fiduciaries.

Retirement Plans Division

Edelman’s Retirement Plans Division is for companies or organizations offering 401(k) plans. For those with less than $350,000 in AUM, there is an annual flat fee of $3,500. For those with $350,000 or more, the fee will never exceed 1.00% AUM.

Wrap Fee

With a wrap fee account, you can open an account and give Edelman the authority to select investments and re-balance portfolios. These accounts invest using asset allocation models, and they usually invest in mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

The minimum account size for a wrap fee account is $5,000.

Online Advice

Individuals can sign up for Edelman’s Online Advice service. Fees can be as high as $300 per year, but individuals can get personalized advice, and implement it themselves. This approach can be a useful option for those who prefer a more hands-on approach to investing, and who like to handle the bulk of the work themselves.
