7 Favorite Holiday Quotes To Inspire eLearning Professionals

Holiday Quotes To Make The Season Merry And Bright

We don’t usually associate eLearning with warm fuzzies, but maybe it’s time we started. After all, whether you’re an Instructional Designer who constructs courses from the ground up or an SME who lends their niche expertise to organizations, you play a vital part in expanding minds and cultivating talent. So, we thought that we’d bring you 7 touching holiday quotes for some added inspiration.

7 Quotes To Keep A Scrooge Attitude At Bay

1. “Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind.” – Mary Ellen Chase

eLearning pros who really make a difference have one thing in common: a thirst for lifelong learning. It’s a mindset that leads to truly inspired design. The same rule applies to your learners. Encouraging them to have a hunger for knowledge instead of treating training as isolated incidents can reap a variety of rewards.

2. “I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.” – Charlie Brown

We’ve all come across a course, module, or activity that needed a little TLC. It might be one that you created a while back or you’ve been charged with the often tricky task of updating content that another eLearning pro has developed. Much like the “sad” Charlie Brown tree, you’re able to see past the sparse branches and figure out how to add a touch of magic to enhance the learning experience if you shift your perspective.

3. “A lovely thing about Christmas is that it’s compulsory, like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together.” – Garrison Keillor

There are certain aspects of eLearning design that we prefer less than others, but that doesn’t make them any less necessary if you want to achieve the objectives. The upside is that you can rely on your eLearning network to help you through it…and possibly even commiserate with them. Then again, you might find that they love tasks or phases of the project that you simply loathe (said in our best Grinch voice).

4. “When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things—not the great occasions—give off the greatest glow of happiness.” – Bob Hope

It’s the little things that count. From navigation controls to focusing on a single topic to avoid cognitive overload, simplicity is often key when building memorable eLearning experiences. We should concentrate on individual elements and ensure that they reflect the purpose and objectives instead of being overwhelmed by the project as a whole. Learners appreciate seemingly small touches that make the content more relevant for them.

5. “One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day.” – Andy Rooney

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. However, even if things get messy when you’re working on a certification course or a bite-sized knowledge refresher, the reason behind it all is to make a difference in learners’ lives. Sure, along the way you might create virtual clutter, but a little bit of design chaos can eventually lead to something impactful, engaging, and motivational, especially if you focus on the desired outcomes.

6. “Every gift which is given, even though it be small, is in reality great, if it is given with affection.” – Pindar

It’s always about the thought behind it. This is why successful eLearning professionals don’t just tick the boxes and rush through the process in order to hand over the deliverables in record time. Everything they incorporate, whether it’s images or interactive elements, is carefully crafted or curated with the learners’ needs in mind.

7. “May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve.” – Unknown

Wonder is at the heart of eLearning. Imagination and creativity are the greatest tools at our disposal when developing content. And learners are never too young or old to embark on their educational adventure.
